Bean is left in the dust
championships but that was no consolation for Devon Bean.
Bean, one of three Bermudians competing in Athens, crashed out of the event during the first qualifying round on Saturday. The 21-year-old went to his first world championship optimistic of reaching the semi-finals and beating his personal best of 10.27 seconds at Olympic Stadium.
Instead, Bean could only manage a 10.78 and finished last in the third heat, one of 13 prelinaries. That time was faster than only 16 of the more than 100 sprinters in the event. Bean may have been overwhelmed running next to Greene, who won the heat in then upset world record holder Donovan Bailey yesterday in the final.
Meanwhile, Troy Douglas and Brian Wellman leap into action Wednesday. Douglas skipped the 400m but competes in the 200m, while Wellman takes part in the triple jump.
