Bermuda's two-man team of Henry Ascento and Bill Pitt recorded modest scores in the first round of the 72-hole Simon Bolivar golf tournament which got

Ascento fared the better of the two, carding a nine-over 79, while Pitt produced a round of 82 on the challenging Izcaragua Country Club course featuring tight fairways, small greens and plenty of water.

Complete results were unavailable and it was not known where the pair stood in relation to the rest of the field, which includes players from throughout Central and South America as well as the Caribbean.

JUNIOR GOLF GLF Bermuda Junior Golf Association play at Port Royal last week saw Stephen Carruthers lead the way in Group V with a fine 69, beating out Robbie Spurling who carded 71 and Justin Barritt (72). In Group IV, played over 16 holes, Neil Fenton won on retrogression over Fraser Hunt, both firing 78. Aaron James followed on 83. In Group III, Jajesh Pachai edged out Chris Brough on retrogression, both carding 67. Seamus Durkin was third on 69. In Group II at Ocean View, Ryan Mello returned a 45 to top the group over nine holes followed by Andrew Smith on 47 and David Boyce on 48. Group One play saw Chaka DeSilva lead the way with a 43, Julia Oatley was second on 50 and Deisha Haxton third on 53. In the novice section at Belmont, Tyler Marshall led over nine holes with 36, beating out Lawson Williams on retrogression.

SOCCER SOC Commercial Division club Exiles will be holding a training session tomorrow (Saturday) at Shelly Bay Field, starting at 9.30 a.m. All players are required to attend.
