Boulevard soar as PHC tumble

PHC crashed to their fifth straight defeat as Martonmere Cup champions Boulevard moved into second place in the First Division with their fourth win on the trot yesterday at St. David's.

Albert Caisey put Boulevard in front early in the first half with a volley near the edge of the penalty box. Substitute Kenny Hill sealed the points with two second half strikes just when PHC were threatening to equalise.

It was from their first corner on the game in the eighth minute that Boulevard took the lead. Winger Stevie Wade forced the corner off Mark Wade and was injured in the process. From Vernon Eve's inswinging cross the ball was only cleared as far as Caisey whose first time volley smashed into the back of the net.

PHC were adventurous, forcing a few corners themselves but without success as the strong wind made it difficult to control high crosses. Goalkeeper Jason Robinson saved at the feet of Rodney Bascome and at the other end veteran midfielder Brian Anderson put a freekick just over the bar from outside the box.

PHC brought on McLee Smith at the start of the second half for Corey Dowling and he immediately boosted the PHC attack with his aggression.

A long ball into the penalty area by Anderson almost produced a chance for Smith, but Robinson anticipated it well and was quick off his line to clear as the pair collided. Robinson needed treatment for a knock on the thigh. PHC were enjoying a good period but their hopes of an equaliser were dashed when Hill struck in the 61st minute. A high cross from the right side by Neil Robinson caused problems for Robinson who tried to slap the ball over the bar at the far post. He failed as the ball hit the bar and was forced over the line by the pouncing Hill.

Soon after, Smith turned and poked a shot just past the near post. Then Kenny Mills turned and got off a shot that went just over the bar.

Just moments after having a chance ruled out for handball, Hill struck in the 89th minute minute with his second goal as Robinson made another error.

This time poacher Hill followed up after Dwight Warren's shot was not collected properly by Robinson to score with the rebound. The loss leaves PHC in the relegation zone, just one place off the bottom.
