Cash, Mullan first again

Summer Swim Series.

And Mike Cash and Alicia Mullan continued their dominance of the popular open water races, winning their respective divisions over a 900-metre course off Robinson Bay Park on Wednesday evening.

Cash was the overall winner with a time of 12 minutes and 12 seconds, nipping Ronald Cowen, who clocked 12:15. Mullan beat the next closest female by more than a minute and was just three seconds behind third-placed David Cash with a 12:27 clocking.

Mullan and Mike Cash also won the season opener at Horseshoe Bay two weeks ago. Next race in the Bermuda Triathlon Association-organised series is June 8 at Warwick Long Bay.

Wednesday's race was supposed to be a mile in length but race director Patrick Hackenberg said: "I didn't look at my chart to place the buoys. I thought I could do it from memory. After setting the buoys out I realised by sight that it would be short and I announced it to the competitors.

"No one seemed to be disturbed about swimming a little less as it is early in the season. In the end, it's the first one to the finish that wins.

"I think all of the competitors liked the location and it was a good midweek event as opposed to cramming another activity into the weekend.''
