Colts lodge appeal after BFA ruling on Under-23s

game against Dandy Town postponed.

Club officials confirmed that a letter of appeal had already been handed in to the Bermuda Football Association and they remained hopeful that a ruling would be made in their favour.

The dispute arose after the BFA disclosed that four Colts players would not be available for the game, to prevent them from getting injured and thus ruled out of the Pan Am Games qualifying round tie in Jamaica next week.

Colts are appealing on the grounds that the players are desperately needed because of the injuries to five starters.

They are also appealing because FIFA regulations governing the release of players for national squad duty declare that players must be made available only five days before a qualifying match for an international competition.

Colts officials are upset with the BFA, who they feel were irresponsible in having Under-23 national team coach Mark Trott inform the players that they could not play.

"We are not worried over who told our players, it's just that the correspondence should have been done by the BFA and nobody else. The proper way was for the BFA to notify us in writing and then we should inform the players,'' said a Colts official who didn't wish to be named.

"We were disgusted to have our players inform us about this news at training.

We have several players injured and need all the help we can get right now.

Dandy Town have two players with the Under-23s, neither of whom are starters.''
