Five sent off in wild affair at White Hill
Five sendings-off, including one from the substitutes' bench, marred this Daihatsu Second Division match at White Hill field yesterday as the bad blood between Somerset Eagles and Devonshire Cougars was well in evidence.
Fights involving players and spectators served to hold up the match for some 20 minutes and at one point it stood in danger of being abandoned by referee Chris Jones.
When the dust finally cleared it was Cougars, reduced to eight men, emerging 2-1 winners over Eagles, having 10 active members.
Cougars' Dapo Frederick, Kevin Hodgson, Devon Brangman and James Raynor, who sprung off the bench to aid his team-mates, were all given their marching orders, while for Eagles Eddie Calendar received an early shower, after he and Brangman had tangled.
In between all the extracurricular activity, Clevie Campbell netted twice for the visitors to offset a single strike by Eagles' Troy Thompson.
Wolves 0, BAA 4 BAA opened their 1993-94 campaign in fine style as they made the short trek to Devonshire Rec. field and disposed of the home side, surging to an emphatic 4-0 win.
The victory marred the Wolves coaching debut of Jack Castle as he painfully watched from the sidelines as his charges laid down, allowing the Green Knights to conquer.
Mike Scott, Clevie Crichlow, Robert Pacheco and Wayne DeSilva, who was later given his marching orders, each registered single tallies in the rout that put BAA on top of the division by virtue of superior goal difference.
Social Club 3, Port Royal 4 Port Royal moved to a 4-0 lead after 27 minutes but had to withstand a fierce comeback attempt by Social Club in this match at PHC Stadium that saw Port Royal end up on top by a 4-3 margin.
Michael Bean (two), Nakia Smith and Winston Thomas were the heroes for Royal, however, goals from Social Club's George Liburd, Anthony Hunt and Rembert Hill almost spoiled their celebration.
Hamilton Parish 4 Prospect 2 The curtain-raiser at Wellington Oval witnessed a tense battle between Hamilton Parish and Prospect, which eventually had the former emerging 4-2 victors.
Chris Caisey, Antwon Darrell, Walton Burgess and player/coach Johnny Nusum, all holdovers from last year's failed First Division campaign, scored for Parish, while Anthony Mouchette and Kenneth Bartrum were Prospect's marksmen.
