first Hamilton Go Karting Grand Prix drew an estimated crowd of 3,000 to the city centre.

Drivers competing in nine separate classes according to kart type, engine size and their age and experience kept spectators lining the circuit entertained for several hours in the afternoon sunshine.

It was the first time the Bermuda Karting Club's premier event had been held in Hamilton in its 25-year history and members from adults right down to the youngest juniors aged nine were involved.

In the 80cc Komer light class for juniors aged nine to 15, Stephen Correia took the honours, holding off the challenges of Brandon Frank who finished second and Ryan Lindo.

Stewart Ball triumphed in the 100cc Can light for juniors aged 14-16, while John Correiro Jr finished first in the Can heavy class.

Michael DeSilva won the Yamaha light 100cc event, while David Barboza sped to victory in the Yamaha heavy class.

Jason North had a successful afternoon, taking third in the Yamaha light class, second in the Shifters and first in the Open category.

And in a tight Yamaha light novices event, Malcolm White and Patrick Ingham could not be separated and tied for first place.

BKC secretary Vicki Robinson said: "The day went off really well. We would love to be able to do it again next year.''
