Goater targets comeback next week
possible return to action as early as next week.
Last season's top scorer has been out for the best part of six weeks after an operation on his knee to repair torn cartilage, but he could be involved in next Wednesday night's reserve team clash against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
The Bermudian striker stated that he would be taking it gradually at first in training and then maybe look to see if manager Joe Royle gives him a reserve team outing.
Goater has sat and watched George Weah and Paulo Wanchope arrive at the club to stake their obvious claims for a regular place in attack.
"I know it will be tough winning back my place and keeping my place but it is good for all of us because the fact is if you are in the team you have got to do well to keep other players out,'' said Goater.
"I think the manager's signing, not just up front, have been great. They have increased competition all over the pitch.'' Feed the Goat and..: Goater (centre) nets for City against Blackburn the last time he played a competitive match.
