Golf classic aces US national exposure
Millions will today learn of the star-studded charity golf event which teed-off yesterday on Bermuda.
On today's episode of the US talk-show `The View,' co-host Star Jones will sit down and discuss the Samuel L. Jackson Golf Classic with local hero Michael Douglas. Both celebrities are on the Island taking part in the second annual charity golf event masterminded by Pulp Fiction star Samuel L. Jackson.
Yesterday, `The View' co-host revealed the world would learn of the charity event when the twosome chatted about the Classic via a pre-taped interview.
And Ms Jones, a second-time celebrity participant, had nothing by good things to say about the Island and Bermudians.
"Bermuda has the jammingest people on the planet,''she added. "It's one of the reasons why I wanted to come back.'' Young and the Restless actor John Castellanos -- lawyer John Silva on the popular soap opera -- said he was having a great time and also declared Bermuda to be a "wonderful place''.
Celebrities, including the Six Million Dollar Man Lee Majors and NHL all-star Ron Greschner enjoyed sunny skies and balmy breezes during the first day of the weekend event.
Television star Alfonso Ribeiro and his team, comprised of locals, took home first place honours in the Celebrity/Amateur Team Scramble -- a contest which placed emphasis on golfing fun.
Last year the former Fresh Prince of Bel Air star walked away with the Celebrity Golf Championship Winner's Trophy.
The golf classic, which runs until Sunday, will raise money for a range of Bermudian charities, as well as the Catalog for Giving, an umbrella organisation in New York which helps get needy kids off the street and into self improvement programmes.
Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton is the scene of all of the star-studded golfing events including Saturday's Celebrity Golf Championship.
