Hill named Parish coach
Hamilton Parish, taking over from David Furbert who has returned to Devonshire Colts.
Hill, while still playing, assisted Furbert with the coaching during Parish's successful promotion push last season.
And Parish's sports club chairman Leon Raynor jr., himself still active as a player, confirmed yesterday Hill had now been promoted to the top job.
Parish now face a stiff challenge of trying to keep their place in the top flight, even though they have retained most of their players from last season.
"My main priority will be survival and success,'' said Hill yesterday.
"We're looking to be a force in the First Division.'' Now 38, and with the responsibility of coaching, Hill doesn't expect to be playing with the team next season. And he'ss confident he has the players to survive.
"I think I'll just be the coach, I don't think I'll be playing, unless I really, really have to,'' said the striker.
"If we have a roster of 25 to 30 players, which is what the BFA has requested, that is more than enough players. This is pretty exciting and very challenging for me. This is my first time coaching in the First Division.
"This was only made officlal last week. I am eager to get it on the way. When they lost David Furbert it looked like I was the next person in line.'' Hill will have about four others working with him on the coaching.
"We have been training for six weeks and training has been going fairly well,'' said Hill.
Raynor noted they were hoping to sign Irving Romaine and Cal (Patches) Dill from North Village, although neither of those players have received a transfer release from the BFA.
