Hollis and Marshall lead Bay fightback
Bailey's Bay 198-5 Despite being kept waiting for two and a half hours for their first wicket, Bailey's Bay still turned things around to win this Cup Match trial against St. George's for the Cal Wade Memorial Trophy by five wickets at Sea Breeze Oval on Saturday.
In a game that served as both a Cup Match and an Eastern Counties warm-up for Bay, the home team quickly regretted sending St. George's in to bat after winning the toss, as Dexter Smith and Wendell Smith put on 129 in 159 minutes.
Dexter continued his good form of late with 70 which came from nine fours and a six while Wendell stroked 57.
Young spinner Damon Edwards had a hand in both wickets, first catching Wendell off Charlie Marshall's bowling and then having Dexter caught by his captain Chris Smith six runs later.
The score quickly slumped to 152-4 before Eugene Foggo (22) and Clevie Wade (23) added 40 for the fifth wicket. Marshall, the fifth bowler used by Bay, was their most successful, taking two for 21.
Bay, who began their innings at 5.00, did not have the best of starts as Cal Dill departed in the fourth over with just 13 on the board. However, a superb second wicket stand of 142 which lasted up to the 42nd over, shaped the outcome of this match as opener Devrae Hollis hit 66 and Marshall 80 from seven fours and two sixes to set up an impressive Bay fightback.
Even though St. George's took four wickets in the last seven overs, Bay still came out victorious at 8.15 p.m. with 11 balls remaining. Chris Smith was not out on 17 and Jermaine Outerbridge 11 not out.
Dale Fox claimed two for 40 and David Adams two for 41.
