`Iron Kids' make their mark

plenty of competitive spirit as more than 160 of them turned out for Saturday's annual junior triathlon at the US Base in St. David's.

Highlights of the day were the two new records set by Adam Petty, son of top senior triathlete Steven Petty, and Emma Rego.

Petty set a new mark in the boys age eight division, covering the 100 metre swim, two and a half mile bike ride and half mile run in 15 minutes and 30 seconds to eclipse the old record of 15.39 established by Tyler Butterfield in 1991.

Eleven year-old Emma Rego also set an age group record as she finished a 200 metre swim, five mile ride and mile run in 30.02, beating the previous best of 30.15 by Elisha Miller in 1993.

Other age group winners were Flora Duffy (girls 7), Jesse Kirkland (boys 7), Clemmie Stubbs (girls 8), Jennifer Baikie (girls 9), Andrew Boyce (boys 9), Erica Frith (girls 10), Christopher Conway (boys 10), Fraser Hunt (boys 11), Jessica Sousa (girls 12), Jonathan Herring (boys 12), Elisha Miller (girls 13), Nuri Latham (boys 13), Abigail Madeiros (girls 14) and Khomeini Talbot (boys 14).
