Ironkids triathlon

Station in St. David's on Saturday to swim, bike and run for glory in the popular Ironkids Triathlon.

Forty-eight prizes were available in 16 categories, ranging from age seven to 14, male and female. Children aged seven to 10 were required to swim 100 metres, cycle two and a half miles and run half a mile, while those 11 to 14 swam 200 metres, cycled five miles and ran a mile.

Thirteen-year-old Kris Hedges turned in an inspired performance, recording the best time over the longer distance, clocking 25 minutes, 31 seconds. He was trailed in by Garon Wilkinson (26:14) and Nuri Latham (26:18).

Meanwhile, among the girls Tamika Williams was fastest, her 29:55 time 20 seconds faster than 11-year-old Elisha Miller. Laura Farge (31:09) was next and also took the top prize for girls aged 12.

Tyler Butterfield emphasised his versatility as he strode over the finish line ahead of Kwame Caisey for honours in the younger group. Butterfield was timed in 14:49, compared to 15:13 for Caisey. Fraser Hunt was next best at 15:33.

Rachael Barton took charge of the girls, her 15:47 leading Jessica Sousa (16:34) and Amy Madeiros (17:45).

Other category winners were Courtney Cotterill (23:56, girls seven), Erica Frith (23:56, girls eight), Sousa (girls 10), Andrew Boyce (16:57, boys seven), Jeremie Hayward (18:01, boys eight), Hunt (boys nine), Miller (girls 11), Auralee Cassidy (39:41, girls 13), Williams (girls 14), Nuri Latham (boys 11), Khomeni Talbot (27:38, boys 11), Wilkinson (boys 14).

RAYMAN BUTTERFIELD -- Compiled an overall time of 34:26 after crossing the finish line.

NURI LATHAM -- Displays his determination leading all 11-year-old boys with an overall time of 26:18.

CHRISTINA DOVE -- This 11-year-old triathlete had energy to spare after the three events.
