Mello placed second with a 36-hole total of 149 in the 16-19 age group in the Plantation Junior Golf Tournament at the Clarendon Golf and Country Club in Manning. He shot a 76 and a one-over-par 73 to finish just one stroke behind winner Brandon Suzuki from Illinois.

West recovered from a first round 81 to shoot 75 on the second day and his total of 156 earned him fifth place in the 14-15 age group. The winner was Juan Barroll of Mexico with 144.

The tournament attracted a field of 62 from the US, Mexico, Trinidad, England, Barbados, Scotland and Bermuda.

The result continued a successful streak for 16-year-old Mello, who in the past 12 months has won the Glidden Bowl, the US/Canadian Junior Open and tied for first in the IJGT Homestead Classic.
