Keith bangs the drum for Bermuda
of the Sydney Olympic Games on Friday.
While the Island's athletes took part in the parade around the Olympic Stadium, renowned drummer Keith Caisey helped provide the entertainment.
Mr. Caisey, who has lived in Australia for 20 years and played with some of the biggest bands in the world, took part in a drumming exhibition during the ceremony.
His brother Anthony, a lieutenant in the Bermuda Fire Service, said yesterday: "When he called to say he was doing it he was extremely excited.
"It was really something for the family that he was being showcased out there on a world stage.'' His father Howard said: "I'm delighted for him. He lives there and he is one of the top notch drummers and he gets on everything else down there.'' Mr. Caisey, who specialises in Latin and African rhythms, has played with the Rolling Stones, Gladys Knight and Pips, and Slim Dusty.
He is regarded as one of Australia's leading musicians and teaches percussion at a music school down under.
His friend Keible Hart said Mr. Caisey, 49, needed the exposure of the Olympic Opening because he did not get the worldwide recognition he needed as a result of choosing to live in Australia rather than the United States.
He said: "Its great for him. Had Keith gone to the US instead of Australia he would have been known worldwide because he is very, very talented.
"He's too good to be in Australia because they just tuck them away there.
"When he was back here I told him no one here knows what he's doing in Australia. I said you may as well have a bag over your head.
"He's been travelling all over Australia but no one here appreciates him because they do not know.'' Mr. Caisey was last on the Island for a Heritage Month `Bermuda Spirit' concert in June.
