Kyme, Sherratt on form in junior open
dominated this year's GT (Bermuda) Ltd. Annual Junior Open Squash Tournament, walking away with the lion's share of prizes.
Eleven-year-old Kyme dazzled those on hand with his speed and placement as he gave himself an early birthday present in sweeping to a pair of 3-0 triumphs over Chris Dawson in the Under 14 and Under 16 boys finals.
The youngster did not drop a single set the entire tournament and showed increased maturity since a recent trip to Hong Kong for the World Junior Squash Championship.
Meanwhile Sherratt encountered a more difficult road to the final, but on reaching that point knew exactly what to do as attested by a thorough 3-0 win against Mel Caines.
But it was anything but easy in the semi-finals where he came up against stubborn Chris Darrell, who stretched Sherratt to five sets before finally succumbing 3-2.
Under 14 Caribbean champion Tracey Harvey was involved in both girls finals.
She beat Ashlea Johansen for the Under 16 title before losing a chance for the double when Joanne Bielby emerged on top in the Under 19 round robin series, losing just once to Nicky Sawin. Harvey, who also lost just once, was second.
The tournament continues for several weeks with further competition in the boys' under-14, under-12 and under-10 events.
WINNER - Joanne Bielby triumphed in the girls' under-19 final.
WINNER - Double winner Nick Kyme collects his trophies from GT's John Stout.
