Late equaliser saves Eagles in six goal thriller

Goalkeeper Andre Smith's decision to question the awarding of a Somerset Eagles corner in injury time possibly cost his team victory yesterday at Devonshire Rec.

For while Smith disputed referee Cal Simons' decision, which came after an Eagles shot took a slight deflection off a Wolves defender, Everett Wellman sent in a perfect cross from the left which was headed into goal by Terrence Christopher to earn Eagles a point.

The dropped point denied Eagles the chance to take over top spot from the idle Southampton Rangers. They trailed 1-2 at the half to goals by Dion Wainwright and Khalimo Hill in the second and 19th minutes, Eddie Callender having equalised for Eagles in the seventh minute as the match enjoyed a fast start.

Wolves might have led 3-1 at the half when, in the closing minutes, Andy Laws' shot hit the crossbar.

The second half was just as wide open as Christopher brought off a good save from Smith in the 60th minute before six minutes later veteran Mike Williams made it 2-2 when he scored from a scramble.

However, Wolves scored what looked to be the winner in the 75th minute when Dean Pitt found the net after the goalkeeper had been lured out of position.

Eagles were not to be denied and made one final swoop in the closing seconds to keep in the midst of the promotion race.

St. David's 4 Ham. Parish 0 St David's kept in touch with the league leaders following this bashing of Hamilton Parish at Lord's.

Shea Pitcher struck twice and Ottis Minors once, while Trinn Burgess suffered the embarrassment of an own goal in the first half as St. David's led 2-0 at the half.

The Islanders remained third in the division, and moved within three points of Rangers and Eagles, having played one game more than Rangers and one less than Eagles.

Parish's defeat kept them buried near the foot of the standings.

Social Club 3 Port Royal 1 Social Club grabbed their third win of the season as they defeated a game, but overmatched Port Royal outfit at PHC Stadium.

A goal early in the first half by striker Dean Young together with second half strikes from Rembert Hill and Randy Spence were enough to hold off Port Royal, whose only reply was a 52nd minute tally by Winston Thomas.

Prospect 4 Paget 1 After trailing 1-0 at the interval, Prospect rebounded with a four-goal blitz to win this game by a convincing margin at Police Field.

The home were rocked by a goal by Damian Mendoza in the first half, but fought back to take the initiative after the break.

Lawrence Smith drew them level and then further goals came from Antoine Daniels, Dwayne Leverock (penalty) and Anthony Mouchette.
