Local road runners get chance this Sunday to reward one of the sport's most important volunteer organisations.
All funds raised from Sunday morning's annual Athletic Club 5K will go to the St. John Ambulance Brigade, who provide first-aid support at all of the Island's road races.
Said race director Steve Conway: "The Brigade's volunteer first aid personnel, dressed in their familiar orange overalls, are seen at all road races throughout the season. This is a chance to give back something to the organisation.
"All profits from entry fees from Sunday's race will be donated to the Brigade. The more entrants we have, the more funds we can raise.'' Starting on Cedar Avenue, the 5K will take runners along St. John's Road, over Berkeley Hill, along North Shore to Admiralty House and back to town via Cox's Hill, Pitt's Bay Road and Serpentine Road to the finish in Victoria Park.
Entries close today at the usual sports outlets although late entries will be accepted at an increased fee on Sunday morning.
SCHOOL CRICKET CRI A fine all-round performance by Rodney Trott helped Francis Patton beat West End in the Primary Schools cricket final at Shelly Bay this week.
Trott grabbed 3-12 as West End ran up a challenging 130-4 off their 20 overs and then smashed 53 in a century opening stand with Tyjuan Burgess (50), as his side reached the total with a little more than an over to spare to win by seven wickets.
Earlier, Lorenzo Dill (33), Cudjo Matthews (32) and Miguel Lopes (31) had all starred with the bat for West End.
President of Bermuda Cricket Board of Control El James was on hand to present prizes to both sides, while Trott and Dill were named MVPs for their respective sides.
