Marlon's misses prove costly
A hatful of missed chances by striker Marlon Lindsay thrust lowly Hotels into deeper trouble at Lord's yesterday with their fate now to be decided in the very last game of the season against Devonshire Colts.
Had Lindsay capitalised on just half of the opportunities that fell his way Hotels would have walked away from this game with maximum points.
Hotels simply needed someone to convert their chances, but it soon became clear that Lindsay wasn't going to provide the heroics.
However, it was Lindsay who put Hotels ahead after 13 minutes when he pounced on a through ball and lobbed it over the head of the advancing Andre Hendrickson in the Boulevard goal.
Boulevard, however, got a deserved equaliser after 38 minutes when Vernon Phillips scored from close range after goalkeeper Stefan Dupres could only palm away a shot from Rodney Basden.
Hotels gained the upperhand during the first 20 minutes of the second half.
But the agony began after 52 minutes when Lindsay got in position to score only to see his point-blank shot blocked by the diving Hendrickson.
Three minutes later there was further misery when hard-working midfielder Dennis Robinson's defence-splitting pass put Lindsay through but the forward hurried his shot over.
Boulevard, struggling to brush off their inspired opponents, had Phillips put an effort just over the bar after 72 minutes. But a minute later they got the winner.
It came from substitute Robert Wilson who steered the ball home after winning possession from a corner on the left.
Hotels threw everything into attack as they stormed forward in search of an equaliser. And it should have come after 76 minutes but Lindsay was once again hesitant and had his point-blank range shot blocked.
Eight minutes later Lindsay put another angled shot wide of the post, leaving Hotels pointless in a match they should have won.

North Village 1 S.Rangers 1 A couple of middle-of-the-pack clubs managed to bring a little spice to an otherwise drab day at Bernard Park.
With nothing at stake except pride, Village stayed a point ahead of Southampton Rangers in fourth spot thanks to a Jamel Smith goal with 13 minutes to play.
It was the second-to-last game of the season for both First Division clubs.
They had long ago given up hope up of catching Vasco for top spot or for that matter, worrying about the relegation zone.
Village, attempting to put aside the aftershocks of last Sunday's brawl with Vasco in the FA Cup semi-final, used the opportunity to field five bantam players, three of whom started.
Rangers fielded the same line-up they have most of the season, including Rohaan Simons, the league's leading goal-scorer. As has been the case for the past month, Simons didn't score, but that is not to say he didn't have chances.
The Rangers goal was instead scored by his running mate, Janeiro Tucker, in the 34th minute, as he flicked a Corey Simmons corner past goalkeeper Gladwin Edness.
Smith's equaliser, in which he beat defender Eugeen Pitt on the left flank and caught the far corner with a low shot, set up a frantic final ten minutes for Edness.
First he batted away back-to-back point-blank blasts by Simons and Tucker and survived successive dangerous corners from substitute Michael Scott. Then he turned aside a Tucker chance in an incident that cost him a yellow card -- and nearly his team a penalty.
Searching for Craig Darrell's through ball at his feet, Tucker was steamrolled by Edness just on the edge of the box.
