in yesterday's London Marathon, clocking three hours and 34 minutes.

The time was three minutes shy of the personal best she set in January's Bermuda International Marathon, when she became the first local woman to cross the line for the second successive year.

But it was still good enough to beat rival Stephen DeSilva (3:53) with whom she had wagered a friendly bet.

Three runners in the Bermuda party did, however, clock their best ever times, the most impressive performance coming from Carolyn Jones who slashed 26 minutes off her PB to finish in 3:48.

Dorothy Gilchrist who finished with husband Trevor in 3:55 also knocked 20 minutes off her previous best.

Jane Marsh's time of 4:17 was a PB by two minutes, while Christine DeSilva clocked 4:48. Walker John Buckley came home in 5:08.

Said Mason: "The weather was wonderfully warm and sunny which made it a pleasant race to run. "But everybody had difficulty getting to the start line and then getting through other runners.'' The event began with a massive field of around 27,000.
