PHC Zebras completed their excellent season by claiming the double yesterday with this two-goal victory in the Shield Cup final at National Stadium.

Spurred on by their most senior player Kenny Mills, who had a hand in the first two goals and netted the third from the penalty spot, PHC were able to ruin a spirited fight back by St. George's midway through the second half.

Having wrapped up the Second Division league title several weeks ago after losing just one game all season, PHC were firm favourites in this game.

One feared a walkover when they built a 2-0 lead after 38 minutes, but St.

George's were able to bounce back and make a game out of it after losing 5-0 to Wolves in last year's final.

Stanton Lewis, Duval Wilson and Mills netted for PHC while Yusef Pitt pulled one back for St. George's.

During a first half dominated by PHC, Lewis combined with Mills and cut inside of left full back Kervin Moreno before unleashing a powerful left-footed drive home from 16 yards after 21 minutes to make it 1-0.

Spearheaded by forceful running by striker Pitt St. George's managed sporadic counter attacks but the defence proved capable of sorting them out without much trouble.

After 38 minutes PHC took a comfortable two-goal lead when Mills brilliantly dribbled by three defenders and saw his shot deflect off a player and bounce to the feet of Wilson who stroked the ball home from 14 yards.

A minute before the break goalkeeper John Durrant prevented PHC from taking 3-0 lead when he fell to deny Steven Astwood's drive from 12 yards.

When play re-started Mills came close to putting the result out of reach when he broke down the right flank only to watch his drive sail over the goal from a sharp angle. But St. George's persevered pushed powerfully forward and came into the game increasingly.

Hard work paid off after 57 minutes when defender Quinton Francis provided a ball for Pitt who fired home a shot from an angle on the right from 15 yards to revive his team's hopes at 2-1.

However before St. George's could cause any further trouble PHC countered attacked and Wilson watched in agony as his shot from 14 yards grazed off the bar with Astwood putting the rebound over from 12 yards.

These two chances did not deter St. George's who continued to pin down their opponents.

After 64 minutes PHC got two scares within a span of seconds. First goalkeeper Quincy Hunt saved a Mackie Crane shot from 11 yards and shortly afterwards a snap shot from Neil Paynter after an indirect free kick was also saved by Hunt, falling to his right.

But at a time when St. George's were looking their best they were killed off when Moreno handled during a counter and Mills made his spot kick good to settle the issue. Lexington of Kentucky, with an older squad of under-16s, took the lead through Reid Grimes after 41 minutes but the local side coached by Kenny Thompson deserved their leveller.
