North Village 5, Paget 0
curtain-raiser at St. David's yesterday, enabling them to surge into the final of the Crystal Palace Youth Cup.
From early on in this contest Village were able to relegate their opponents to virtual spectators and ruled the `waves' at the east end.
A hat-trick by promising young forward Kaiwon Dill, including two in the first half, proved just the tonic for the North Shore club as Paget never recovered and in the end succumbed meekly to the opposition's tactical genius.
Additional scores in the second half came from David Thomas and Winston Paynter, but by then the die had clearly been cast with Village, the all-conquering predators, salivating in the throes of a fresh kill.
Despite Dill's heroics and goal-scoring prowess it was the latest from the `Team Jennings Stable', Keith who really set the tone for the young Red Devils with his vocal direction and intricate ball skills.
The first half witnessed Paget enjoying their best opportunity to get the edge on Village as they benefitted from an angled cross-wind, but unable to capitalise were made to pay as Dill popped up in the 12th and 24th minutes to score past Paget goalkeeper Adrian Crockwell.
While Village had to be satisfied to be ahead at the break, Paget realised much work awaited in the second half, however, they ultimately proved unequal to the task.
With a two-goal cushion, Village cruised through the opening moments of the second half, but were still able to pin Paget on the defensive and eventually increase the lead.
After 50 minutes, Jennings was denied by Crockwell after he received a feed from right-winger Sri Wilson and turned the ball goalward.
Nevertheless, there would be no denial three minutes later when Thomas increased the lead to 3-0 after a breakdown in the Paget defence.
This ineptness at the back continued to plague the Ord Road youngsters with sweeper Gerwal Darrell often getting caught in possession while trying to dribble out of trouble.
Paynter latched onto a partially cleared ball on the left in the 53rd minute and dribbled inside the penalty area before thundering a left-foot effort home.
As the match took on the trappings of a rout, Dill placed an exclamation mark on the proceedings with the final goal -- his third -- of the match.
A 30-member squad was yesterday selected to begin training for Bermuda's upcoming friendly international against a United States select team.
One major absentee is goalkeeper Dwayne Adams, who was last week suspended indefinitely by the BFA after missing two training sessions involving the Olympic team.
Devonshire Colts' mainstay Craig Smith meanwhile eliminated himself from the squad with a sending-off during yesterday's FA Cup semifinal against Dandy Town.
Training sessions will take place tomorrow (National Stadium, 8 p.m.), Wednesday (BAA, 7 p.m.) and Thursday (National Stadium, 7 p.m.).
Team: Randy Darrell (Southampton); Troy Hall (St. George's); Mike Dill, Kenny Mills (PHC); Kentoine Jennings, Kevin Jennings (North Village); Andre Hendrickson, Jahmal Samuels, Leonard Hypolite, Quincey Aberdeen, Mark Ray, Jermel Belboda, Ellington Weldon (Devonshire Colts), Kenny Hill, Carlos Pearman, Neil Robinson (Boulevard); Karl Roberts, Voorhees Astwood, Irving Burgess, Ricky Mallory, Paul Towlson (Vasco); Steval Arorash, Andrew Rahman (Somerset); Lloyd Christopher, Devarr Boyles, Paul Cann, Carlos Smith, Cymande Davis (Dandy Town); Kyle Lightbourne (Walsall); Shawn Goater (Rotherham).
TRIPLE THREAT -- Kaiwon Dill celebrates his third goal as a dejected Paget team member looks on.
GOING, GOING, GONE . . . -- In this sequence from yesterday's Crystal Palace Youth Cup semifinal at St. David's, North Village's Haile Outerbridge goes past a Paget defender, slips the ball by Paget goalkeeper Adrian Crockwell and then holds his head in disbelief after watching his fine solo effort go narrowly wide.
