But the former Bermuda and St. George's Cup Match star bowler still intends to hold on to his position as a selector of the Scottish national team.

"I still love the sport of cricket, it's just that I have decided to take a break from coaching this coming season (which starts in April),'' said Parfitt, who has coached Arbroath CC after retiring as a player a few seasons ago.

The club have asked him to make himself available if they require any additional coaching help during the season, and Parfitt said that he may contemplate the offer after he has had time to take a break. "One thing is that if I do go back it will be a very minor role. I have been pretty busy on my regular job and really don't know how things will turn out as far as finding spare time for golf and anything additional,'' he said. Parfitt was one of the first persons that Bermuda Cricket Board of Control president Elvin James approached about "availability'' should a position of coach become available. The discussion took place without a clear offer, however.

James has since ruled out a Bermudian being appointed to a national post, insisting that the programme has deteriorated to the extent where it only can be restored by a fully qualified international coach.

Parfitt feels that the new committee are on the right course by implementing a junior programme.

"It's the only way for them to go. Youth cricket is a must and should always be a priority if the sport is to make any progress,'' he said.
