Fifth Avenue Mile on October 2. Fisher finished eighth out of 15 runners and broke her own mile record in four minutes, 55.6 seconds to become the first Bermudian to go under five minutes for that distance. She later took part in the USA Biathlon Championships and was first in her category, fourth in her age group and 14th overall in a world-class field. There were athletes with Olympic and world championship experience from the United States and Czechoslovakia running and shooting against Fisher, who borrowed a $250 rifle from organisers while her competitors had weapons worth $4,000. Fisher was sponsored by Pure Water and American Airlines.
