Port Royal goes on the attack against Social Club
In the feature match at White Hill field, Port Royal served early notice that this match would not be as close as their recent encounter with Social Club which they won 4-3.
Port Royal went on the attack early, scoring in the third minute of play through Michael Furbert and cruising to a final 2-0 victory with a second goal from Winston Thomas.
The only all-Second Division encounter started out at breakneck pace with both teams forcing passes, many of which ended up going to the other team. However, it was Port Royal who struck paydirt when a high-arching floater from the right flank by David Gibbs found a wide-open Furbert who scored with his header which went in off the underside of the crossbar.
Social Club were guilty of some selfish play and many times when passes should have been sprayed across field to open team-mates, they held the ball too long. On the few opportunities that Social Club did have to score, they suffered from some poor finishing which ultimately led to their demise.
Port Royal scored their second goal at the 82nd minute when David Gibbs again sent a cross over from the wing. This time his pass found a waiting Winston Thomas whose tame shot should have been covered by the keeper.
Somehow the ball managed to elude the sprawled out 'keeper and find its way inside the right post for the game's second and final score.
Wolves 4, Fire Service 1 This match was closer than the scoreline suggests, after Second Division Wolves relied on two goals in the last six minutes to douse the fire in their opponents at Devonshire Rec.
When Marlon Lindsay gave Wolves the lead in the second minute with a well-executed header from a corner, it looked like a rout was on the cards as Wolves forced four corners in the first six minutes.
But gradually Fire Service got back into the game and in the 12th minute even erased the Wolves lead when Troy Furbert scored from close range following a move down the right.
Nathan Webb, who scored six times in his team's last match, notched his seventh goal of the early season on the half hour to restore their lead, using his speed and strength to get inside the box and then finding the net with a cheeky back-heel from inside the six-yard box.
Fire Service continued to hold their own in the second half but two missed chances in the 65th and 68th minutes proved costly for them as Wolves came back to extend their lead.
First, Furbert connected with a low cross from the right but from just three yards he pocked the ball over the bar when the equaliser looked certain. Three minutes later Stephen Caines took a pass from Ralph Scott but put his effort wide when well placed at the far post.
Wolves made them pay when Cecil Hendrickson scored from the penalty spot in the 84th minute. Five minutes later another Webb back-heel inside the box set up Blake Outerbridge to apply the finishing touches from close range.
Exiles 4 Valley 1 Exiles shrugged off their poor early season form to dominate Valley, who are a division below them in the Commercial League.
Exiles made all the running in the first half at PHC Stadium, but were thwarted by poor finishing and some great saves from Valley goalkeeper James Tyrell.
First, an arching Tyrell pushed a rocket shot from Exiles winger Alan Johnson over the bar and he later dived low to his right to tip a 25-yard free-kick from David Marchant around the post.
Johnson, who caused havoc on the right-wing, also hit the bar with a firmly hit volley.
Just when it looked as if Valley might survive the onslaught, striker Mark Thorne scored Exiles' first goal of the season ten minutes from half-time, slotting the ball home from a tight angle near the six yard box.
Exiles came storming out after the break and went three nil up within the first five minutes of the second half.
Midfielder Antoine Cannonier showed his awareness with a magnificent goal from just inside Valley's half. He controlled Tyrell's goal-kick, saw the 'keeper off his line and chipped it over his head and into the roof of the net from 45 yards.
Minutes later, midfielder Marvin Hassan connected with a Marchant corner and headed home from eight yards.
Blake Lambert got one back for Valley with an 20-yard curling shot, hit with the outside of his boot, which bent round the flailing hands of Exiles 'keeper Lyndon Rayner.
Valley, who until then had been held in check by an Exiles defence well-marshalled by former Hotels star Alan Peacock, seized the momentum and they pressed forward looking for a second goal.
But the match was put firmly beyond their reach eight minutes from time when Marchant latched onto a short pass from Thorne, ran onto goal and hit a low shot into the left-hand corner of the net from ten yards out with Tyrell stranded on his line.
Genesis 0, KPMG 2 Genesis' FA Cup dreams were left in tatters yesterday at the Southampton Oval when experience finally told as KPMG outwitted their opponents and ran out worthy winners.
Striker Neil Clemens sent KPMG on their way with a headed goal in the 26th minute.
It was the simplest of executions after front man Jon Ingham had struck the underside of the crossbar with a fierce 18-yard shot.
The ball ricocheted perfectly for Clemens who nodded the ball into the net from a few feet.
Controversy erupted right on half-time when KPMG thought they had grabbed another goal.
Ronnie Simmons, who had a superb afternoon, slotted the ball home after a driving run into the box.
But the goal was ruled offside by referee Lawrence DeShields.
It was fitting, therefore, that Simmons should put the game beyond doubt in the 76th-minute.
He drilled the ball sweetly past the advancing Genesis keeper Ernest McCallan from about 18 yards.
