first time in six months this Sunday as a new season gets underway.

A total of 21 ponies are expected to race in a shortened 16-race programme at the Vesey Street track.

Several of last season's regular drivers have yet to complete their preparation and will skip the opening meet.

However, at least four new ponies will make their race debuts, including three two-year-olds, while three ponies are returning after a year or more away from the track.

One significant change sees Samantha Hayward taking the reins of Eddie the Great, previously driven by Michael DaCosta.

Racing spokesman David Lopes noted yesterday that two Saturday meets were planned this month, on October 11 and 25, followed by a Sunday programme on November 2.
