Raynel to the rescue . . .

Late goals are becoming Raynel Lightbourne's speciality. Three days after hitting Bermuda's dramatic extra-time winner in Jamaica, he struck four minutes from time to spare PHC's blushes against BAA in yesterday's FA Cup first round clash at PHC Stadium.

Had it not been for the goalkeeping of Lightbourne's Under-23 teammate Dwayne Adams, BAA would have been stuffed like a Christmas turkey before half-time.

The Zebras dominated the game from start to finish but they found Adams in the same form that earned him high praise in Jamaica. His athleticism denied Winston Trott a spectacular diving header in the 15th minute and he turned a fierce Lightbourne drive over the bar three minutes later before BAA took the lead against the run of play in the 21st minute.

Stephen Trott upended Clevie Crtichlow, BAA's liveliest player, and Andre Thompson drove the ball low past Williams from the resulting spot kick. It was to be the high point of Thompson's game. In the second half he was booked for disputing a call by referee Chris Terry and then nine minutes later received the red card for punching the ball away when a throw in decision went against him.

PHC might have had six goals before the break but saw Adams tip a teasing far post cross from Shawn Simons over the bar, Damon Francis fire just over, Lightbourne denied by Adams bravely diving at his feet, and Adams tipped a high ball from Stephen Trott against the bar and away for a corner. Most incredibly, in a hectic 36th minute scramble, Shawn Simons hit the bar and Vincent Chaves cleared another effort off the line.

PHC coach Leroy (Nibs) Lewis brought in the experience of first Anthony Stovell and later Kenny Burt in the second half but it took another penalty kick for the Zebras to draw level. Duncan Ashworth tripped Shawn Simons in the 52nd minute and Winston Trott slotted the ball past Adams.

The Zebras continued to pour forward with veteran Sammy Swan orchestrating their better moves and Shawn Simons, Blenn Bean and Swan himself all saw good efforts blocked or saved. Burt arguably had the best chance, turning brilliantly on a pass from Swan only seconds after coming on, only to see Adams dive smartly to his left to save.

But just as extra time loomed, Lightbourne was left with a free header as Adams and his defence failed to deal with Burt's cross from the right.
