Recent Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play champion Duncan Zelkin has got off to a good start in the Rice Planters amateur Tournament in Charleston, South
then carding a four over par 76 in the first round of competition at the Snee Farm Golf club on Wednesday.
The conditions were rain and thunderstorms and Zelkin, who had trouble with his putting, trails the leader by six strokes. There are four rounds of competition at the 6,850 yard course.
The Amstel League concludes on July 10 with A League play at Mid Ocean Club and B League play at Castle Harbour Golf Club.
The league presentation will be held on July 24 at Port Royal GC immediately after the Amstel One Day Tournament. Entries for this event should be made directly to Port Royal GC as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Bermuda Golf Association is seeking entries for the first Medal Play competition of the 1993-94 season scheduled for Mid Ocean Club on July 10. The event will run in conjunction with the final Amstel A League round.

The Heritage Tournament is set for St. George's Club on July 17.
ROAD RUNNING RUN The Second Annual Runway 5-K will be held on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. starting at the US Naval Air Station Fire Department.
The event, which benefits an academic scholarship established by the Fire Dept. and given yearly to a selected Roger B. Chaffee High School student, will be supplemented by a rollerblade race at 6.45 p.m.
T-shirts individually air-brushed and numbered will be issued to the first 75 registered participants. Registration will commence at 5 p.m. on race day at the Number One Gate concession stand at a cost of $15.

FISHING FSH The 30th International Light Tackle Tournament will be held from July 12-16, hosted by the Bermuda Anglers Club.
Seven teams are expected to take part in the event, including two women Gene Duval and Lisa Booth who hold light tackle world records.
The scoring will be on a factor system with additional points being awarded for releases of Blackfin and Yellowfin Tuna.
ATHLETICS ATH Those intending to compete in the Senior National Track and Field Championships this weekend are reminded that the entry deadline is today at 5 p.m. Entries may be returned to the Sportseller in the Washington Mall or by calling Bryan Dowling at 295-1111.
Late entries will be taken at a space available basis between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday.
CRICKET CRI St. David's County Cricket Club will be holding a clinic for youngsters aged from six to 14 at the club on Monday.
