Refs happy to be back in action
weren't those signalling the return of migrating birds -- rather the chimes of soccer's `Men in Black', who returned to the field of play following a two week, self-imposed hiatus.
"It's good to be back, although some things haven't changed ... we'll always be a villain (to spectators),'' said Bermuda Referees Association president Lyndon Raynor, who officiated the St. George's versus Southampton RangersFA Cup tie. "I personally felt that the players out there generally just played football. A few may have found reason to talk back to the referee, but that's football.'' Likewise, Grade Two referee Vance Campbell was delighted to once again be involved.
"I'm glad to be back out here, both games today were played in good spirit, but it would be nice if the fans would behave a little bit better,'' said Campbell, who praised the efforts of St. George's Cricket Club in providing security.
Raynor again advised clubs to take measures towards keeping fans on the perimeter, particularly when a team scored.
"I understand the jubilation and excitement, but they cannot come on the field,'' he warned.
