Robinson's late strike spares Forties blushes
A late goal by Andy Robinson earned Forties a spot in the next round of the FA Cup after this hard fought match at White Hill Field. Until Robinson broke the 1-1 deadlock two minutes from time the game seemed destined for extra time with Exiles hanging on bravely against a more formidable Forties' line-up.
But there was little to choose between the two teams as play progressed with Exiles coming into the game in the second half after Forties had taken a 1-0 lead into the break courtesy of Adrian Hennessey's goal after 33 minutes.
Exiles, spearheaded in midfield by Craig Tyrell, were rewarded for their fight and determination after 58 minutes when Al Johnson scored the equaliser that enabled them to remain competitive until the closing stages.
But it was the eager Robinson who had the last say, settling it with his strike just when extra time seemed inevitable.
Prospect 4 KPMG 0 Two goals in each half sealed victory for the home team at Prospect yesterday in this FA Cup elimination round match that provided plenty of entertainment despite the one-sided scoreline.
With a sizeable lead midway through the second half, Second Division Prospect substituted some key players but then found themselves unable to slack off as their Commercial Division opponents began to fight back. But with four goals already hammered home while at full strength, Prospect ultimately secured an easy passage into the next round.
Kenneth Barthram hit Prospect's first goal after 24 minutes and centre-back Lawrence Smith put them ahead 2-0 after 36 minutes when he smartly headed home a Barthram corner.
Skipper Dwayne Leverock, surprisingly swift for a person his size, made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after 53 minutes and striker John Richmond completed the scoring with the fourth goal after 65 minutes.
KPMG, clearly lacking in finishing, had their moments in the early stages of the second half but Ian Rix shot against the bar and Mark Bridges put his effort wide.
Substituting prominent forward Andrew Rollins and hard-working midfielder Robert Goodchild, Prospect gave up their advantage but KPMG still were unable to cash in.
Substitute Steve Walker added much needed thrust to their attack but they did no more than threaten with even a consolation goal escaping their grasp.
Social Club 2 Valley 1 Second Division Social Club had to pull out all the stops to beat Valley of the Commercial Division yesterday at PHC Stadium when two goals by Shawn Laws proved decisive.
Valley led 1-0 midway in the first half before Laws equalised in the closing minutes of the half. Laws scored the winner from the penalty spot late in the second half to prevent an upset.
The first match at PHC Stadium -- Island Rangers v Hamilton Parish -- was not played because of the weather, as were the two matches at BAA Field between Belco and Spinning Wheel and BAA and Lobster Pot.
The postponed matches will be rescheduled for this week, with the BFA expected to confirm dates and venues today.
