Rugby players display more than their skills at party
party on Friday.
Antics normally reserved for the changing room were on display to almost 2,000 revellers at the World Rugby Classic party on Front Street.
One performer bared his manhood while covering his face with a mask.
And a woman dancer, wearing a mini dress and skimpy panties, gave the front row a glimpse of her private parts.
The eight teams in the annual Classic competition each produced a routine, with many players dressing in drag and performing X-rated sketches. See picture on Page 2 An ambulance was called after one performer slipped offstage and cut his leg.
But he was later declared fit for a match.
Party organiser Mr. Ed Lawrence said there had been no complaints about the show, held at No. 1 Shed on Friday night. And he praised the safety record of performers and spectators.
"Some of the guys do get out of hand a little bit. But if you say to them: `Look guys, you're guests in another country and this isn't right', they always stop.
`Everyone is responsible enough not to go too far. They were put into a position of performing, which is something they're not trained to do. They were trying to perform to what they thought people would want.
"It was probably less risque and boisterous than most rugby `dos'.
"Not a single person complained. I don't think there was a single person who didn't have good fun, and we stuck to the rules,'' he said.
The event had ended exactly on time, and many partygoers had sensibly left their bikes at the scene and taken taxis, he said.
Admission to the event was $10, and organisers are hoping to top last year's fundraising total of $37,000. The cash goes to support the non-profit tournament.
Players representing Bermuda, England, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and combined European nations are taking part in the competition. Many are here with their wives.
A Police spokesman said last night he was unaware of any complaints about the party.
Organisers of allegedly "indecent'' shows can face prosecution. The owners and manager of Scandal nightclub were each fined $300 earlier this year after a show with nude dancers. The club received no complaints about the show.
But two prison officers were last month cleared of indecency charges after a strip show described as "outrageously indecent'' by a magistrate. They successfully argued the Luscious Lollipops show was private and they had no idea it would be indecent.
