Ryan's decisive knock
St. George's 135-4 (target reduced to 135 in 46 overs) Ryan Steede struck a fluent 41 not out off four fours and two sixes to lead St. George's to a six-wicket win at Wellington Oval.
The St. George's target was reduced after a shower forced a delay, and the readjusted target was only 13 runs more than they already had. One over after the resumption it was all over as Steede and Dean Minors (17) completed an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 60 by scoring the required runs off Merkel Smith.
Cleveland had some early hopes of an upset when they claimed three wickets for 14 runs after an opening stand of 30 between Dexter Smith (16) and Ross Dowling (12) got St. George's off to a good start.
Left-armer seamer Harry Rawat removed both Smith and Dowling before his replacement at the eastern end, spinner Johnny Richardson, claimed the wicket of Sinclair Gibbons in his first over to make it 44-3.
Mark Ray and Steede added 31 for the fourth wicket before Ray gave his wicket away when he lofted a shot to Peter Philpott at long-on after scoring 41.
Rawat took two for 32 while Richardson claimed two for 14.
Cleveland's innings deteriorated after an opening stand of 58 in 18 overs between Carlton Smith (25) and Curtis Jackson (23). The only other players in double figures were Jason Simons and Peter Philpott with 16 and 11 respectively as Cleveland quickly went from 90-2 to 121-8. Spinner Travis Smith claimed three for 17, while Herbie Bascome had two for 14 and Ray two for 31.
Mark Ray: 41 for St. George's.
