Sasha lifts St. Lucia title
her mark at the International Tennis Federation's Coca Cola junior tournament in St. Lucia on the weekend, beating the top seed in the final to claim a memorable under-12 age division victory.
Sasha edged sister Kara 7-6, 6-3 and then faced a daunting task against number one seed Laura Marin from Trinidad, a recent finalist on the Caribbean junior circuit in Jamaica.
But Bermudian Fisher took the first set 6-3 and seemed on course for a straightforward victory, racing into a 3-0 lead in the second. However, her opponent fought back to level at 3-3 and then forced a tiebreaker at 6-6.
It was then that Fisher showed her fighting spirit, clinching the tie-break 7-5 to end a two hour marathon.
Sasha then completed the `double', teaming up with sister Zoe to beat their Trinidadian opponents 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the under-12 doubles final.
In the girls under-14 doubles final, Bermuda's Danielle Downey and her Trinidadian partner lost to two Trinidadians 6-2, 6-2.
Earlier, Bermuda's Daniel Miller, playing with Mali Richards, son of Antiguan Test great Viv Richards, lost in the quarter-finals of the boys under-18 doubles 7-6, 7-6 to a Trinidad/Guyanese partnership.
This week the youngsters will be in action again on the Caribbean circuit, sisters Zoe, Kara and Sasha Fisher along with Downey all playing in Trinidad.
