Schuyler Meadows make their move
of the 44th annual Goodwill Tournament, firing an impressive 58 at Mid Ocean Club yesterday.
Led by pro Steve Jensen, the Loudonville quartet, which includes amateurs David Tallcott, Jared Abbruszzese and Zachary Passaretti, recorded their lowest score of the week on what is considered the toughest course.
Yesterday's 58 was added to scores of 60 at Port Royal and 61 at Belmont, leaving them on net 179, two shots clear of Trenton CC, overnight leaders St.Louis CC and Atlanta National, all on 181.
And with Castle Harbour to play in the final round today, Schuyler Meadows will be favourites to lift the title.
But St.Louis, from St.Louis, Missouri, led by Steve Spray and including Sandy Galt, Barry Hamilton and Fred Hanser, also play Castle Harbour in their final round today and could make it a close finish.
Former winners Trenton, however, might have the inside track as their final round is at Belmont while Atlanta must travel to Port Royal.
Trenton compiled an impressive 58 at Port Royal yesterday, helped by the efforts of amateur Jeremiah Kane who aced the par three third.
Meanwhile, gross honours in this year's tournament seem destined to go to a local club.
Ocean View, led by Dwayne Pearman, hold down top spot on 196, one shot ahead of Kim Swan's St.George's. Two strokes further back are the team from Atlanta National.
