Mere mortals in most games, Boulevard seem to turn into Supermen when a cup berth is on the line.

Particularly when that cup is the Martonmere.

So it was on Saturday, when they stepped out at Somerset Cricket Club and scored five unanswered second-half goals to rout North Village in a wild semi-final clash.

Boulevard, who will be making a record fifth straight appearance in the annual Remembrance Day final, will meet the winners of Thursday night's Vasco-Dandy Town match.

"We were out of it for a long time, so I guess we're making up for lost time,'' said Boulevard assistant coach Gary Mallory afterwards. "Boulevard tend to be a cup team, anyway.'' Just as they have in their early-season games, however, Boulevard looked like anything but champions in the first half on Saturday.

They were badly outplayed by a lightning-quick North Village team which scored the only goal -- by Elliott Jennings, who was sent clear by Damon Wade in the 34th minute -- and were unlucky not to have several more.

But when the teams changed round for the second half they also changed roles.

Dwight Warren equalised seven minutes after the restart then gave his team the lead ten minutes later. Rodney Bascome and substitute Otis Minors, with two, completed the rout.

So what went on in the Boulevard dressing room at half-time? "We just had a talk,'' said Mallory. "Basically, it's if we're behind a goal or we're one goal up, you still have to play 90 minutes. That's our philosophy.'' An experienced Boulevard team also know what it takes to win.

Warren, for instance, was playing back-to-back games for the first time this season after reinjuring his groin earlier in the year. Midfielder Greg Foggo and coach Herbie Bascome were both returning to the team after devoting much of the past month to the national cricket squad.

Never mind that Foggo was knocked out with a knee injury late in the first half and didn't return.

Warren more than made up for for it by turning his game up a notch against a tiring Village defence. First Bascome spotted him breaking in from the left, with Warren collecting the pass in stride and ripping a hard shot inside the near post.

A mix-up between Village 'keeper Nyon Steede and his defender led to the second goal, with Warren managing to get a toe to a backpass, nudging it into the open goal.

Bascome's 25-yard chip over Steede in the 73rd minute made it 3-1 before Minors hit his pair four minutes apart. He can thank Warren for the first, a penalty whistled by referee Stuart Crockwell after Warren was run over from behind by full back Koji Dill.
