Sharrieff miss spares Trojans

College student Khari Sharrieff came close to scoring the winning goal for Wolves five minutes from the end of this First Division match at Somerset yesterday.

In a game which was loaded with drama in the opening half before losing some of its excitement after the break, substitute Ricky Nesbitt's corner was collected by Sharrieff who unleashed a fierce left-footed drive that brushed off the bar as he fell to the ground.

The final result, however, was probably no more or less than either side deserved with both teams having had their share of chances in the first half.

Hewonnie Brown continued to prove he is one of the better goalkeepers in the league when he played a vital role in shutting down the home side.

After just eight minutes he dived to his left to save a blast from Michael Brangman who was just seven yards from goal and after 40 minutes Brown punched away a curling corner that seemed destined for the back of the net.

Inbetween these two acts of heroics, Brown constantly came racing out of goal to punch away threatening corners and crosses.

But the visitors had their chances too, with Trojans goalkeeper Keenan Tucker matching Brown's athleticism after 15 minutes when he brilliantly tipped over a header by Sharrieff from nine yards.

Wolves threatened just as much as their opponents but were let down by Nathan Webb who was too hesistant in getting shots off when in position to score.

The hard-working Sharrieff was unlucky, though, on several occasions. After 17 minutes he put a hard shot wide from 14 yards and after 33 minutes Tucker pushed his angled shot around the post.

But as Webb muffed chances, David Burchall and Michael Brangman proved to be just as inept up front for the home side.

Play deteriorated after the break although young substitute Jelanie Scott added ideas up front for the Trojans.

Both goalkeepers were forced to make early saves with Tucker diving to his left to block a blast from Webb from 16 yards and Brown punching away an angled free kick by hard-working Trojans defender Anthony Burchall.

With both attacks tiring and advancing without much imagination a draw proved to be a fair result.
