Sims bows out in first round
yesterday from the Rolex Junior Classic golf tournament.
Sims, who led the tournament after the opening round of strokeplay, lost three and two to Todd Miller in the first round of match play on the Walt Disney World Magnolia course in Orlando, Florida.
The 18-year-old Bermudian, attending the University of Rhode Island on a golf scholarship, fell into a tie for 16th on Wednesday but made the cut of 32 for match-play yesterday.
An ice-cold putter cost him as he fell behind early against his opponent from Napa, California. He mounted a comeback over the back nine -- including an eagle on the tenth hole -- but couldn't sustain the momentum.
The tournament featured 108 top junior golfers from across the US and around the world. It was played on the same course -- and from the same tees -- used for the Walt Disney Classic PGA event.
