Somerset CC 134
Heavy favourites Bailey's Bay suffered the indignity of being humiliated by underdogs Somerset CC in this Knockout semi-final at White Hill on Saturday, losing by 104 runs.
Bay had no excuses because they played with a number of key regulars such as skipper Charlie Marshall, veteran Noel Gibbons, Irving Romaine and Clarkie Trott and were expected to coast to victory against modest opponents.
However, instead of reaching their victory-goal of 135 Bay's batting proved to be astonishingly brittle on the day and they succumbed to Somerset's two-man bowling attack of Francis Richardson and Leon Place in just 14 overs, replying with just 30.
Trott was top scorer with nine -- and he was dropped when he was on three.
Richardson finished with five for 12 off seven overs, including a maiden, while Place had four for 17 off seven overs.
Earlier Somerset reached 134 with Place scoring 39, Wendell White and Craig Brangman 18 apiece and Richardson 16 not out.
Stevie Outerbridge took three for six off 3.1 overs, Marshall two for 14 off four overs and Gibbons two for 34 off eight overs.
PHC 124 Western Stars 128-2 Albert Steede scored 44 not out and Ricky Brangman chipped in with 35 not out as Stars beat PHC by eight wickets at Sea Breeze Oval in the other semi-final.
Also among the runs were Andre Manders with 17 and Jermaine Postlethwaite with 15.
Cal Waldron was top bat for PHC with 39 while Kevin Dill followed with 25 and K.Tucker with 10 not out.
