Squash ace Eyles moves to Island
The world's number two-ranked squash player yesterday confirmed he would be setting up shop on the Island after receiving approval from the Immigration Department.
Eyles is staying at the Hamilton Parish home of dental surgeon Dr. Jim Fay but said yesterday he would soon be looking at more permanent digs to rent or buy.
"I haven't found a place yet, I'm just looking around right now,'' the Australian star said.
A long-time visitor to the Island, Eyles said he decided to move because of Bermuda's proximity to tournaments around the world -- and the way of life.
"Generally, I just enjoy myself and enjoy the lifestyle here,'' he said.
He became friends with the Fays after being presented with a box of chocolates at a tournament here three years ago. After joking that he couldn't eat them because of a toothache, Eyles was approached afterwards by Dr.Fay.
"Next thing I knew I was sitting in his chair and we've been friends ever since,'' said Eyles.
Two other top ten players -- Brett Martin and Anthony Hill -- are currently on the Island to take part in an exhibition match at Bermuda Squash Racquets Club tonight -- but Eyles said he's taking a break from competition until a tournament in Egypt in June.
He is coming off a tough loss to world number one Jansher Khan in the French Open last weekend. Leading 2-0 in the best-of-five match, Eyles blew three match balls and ended up losing in five sets.
