Stadium from October 25 to November 7.
The event was postponed from June because of the resurfacing of the courts but organisers are nevertheless expecting a bumper entry as tennis on the island picks up ahead of the BLTC and Coral Beach Club Invitationals and the XL Classic, which will play host to several overseas professionals.
The deadline for entries is next Friday at 7 p.m. at the Tennis Stadium when the draw will take place.
Michael Way has pulled out of this weekend's qualifying tournament for the XL Classic.
Way, who is in the midst of relocating to Bermuda from Georgia, was due to compete in a round-robin event against his brother Billy, Ricky Mallory and Monty Nearon.
Billy will face Mallory at the stadium tomorrow at 1 p.m. and then Nearon on Sunday. Mallory and Nearon will face off at Coral Beach Club on Monday at 5 p.m.
The overall winner, and maybe the runner-up, will join Donald Evans as the local representatives in classic, which runs from December 6-12.
SOCCER SOC This weekend's Alliance and Commercial Division matches which were originally postponed will now be played tomorrow. Boulevard against Prospect, however, remains postponed.
CRICKET CRI The Devonshire Rec. Barbados tour group will hold a meeting tonight at Devonshire Rec. at 7.30. Those interested in travelling with the group are urged to attend.
SAILING SLG The month of October reaches a sailing climax with the inaugural International Star Masters Regatta in Bermuda between October 25-29.
This event is co-hosted by the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club and the Bermuda Yachting Association and organised by Ekert Wagner from North Sails in Germany who is also a participant.
Other participants from Germany are Niels Bleese and Hans Fendt, Pelle Petterson from Sweden, Heinz Maurer from Switzerland and Tom Londrigan, Barton Beek, David Kollock, Malin Burnham, Robert Van Wagnen, Mead Batchelor, Emil Karlovsky and Hank Rowen from the United States. Bacardi are the local sponsors and they will be hosting the awards banquet.
Skippers in this event must be a minimum age of 50 on the first day of the regatta, and five races are planned in the Great Sound. Enthusiasm for this event is high since these skippers will be importing their own Star boats just for this event.
No doubt Peter Bromby, fresh from his third consecutive win in the IOD World Championship, will be watching this event with interest since he plans to campaign his Star boat for the 1996 Olympics. His boat will be used for this regatta.
HOCKEY HOC The Womens Hockey Association has named the team that will represent Bermuda at the CAC Games in Puerto Rico next month: Rosemarie Daniels, Lisa DeSilva, Marcia Ford, Vickie Joseph, Tracy McPhee, Maria Pichery, Rhonda Rawlins, Edna Mae Tuzo, Stacey DeShield, Fiona Doe, Lyndell Furbert, Edna Matthews, Andrea Parker, Ingrid Pitt, Brenda Smith and JoAnn Wilson.
