Stubborn St. George's spoil it for Charlie
Last pair David Adams and Greg Foggo, Jr. hung on for nine overs to earn St.
George's a draw at Sea Breeze Oval and spoil Charlie Marshall's return against his former club.
Marshall had earlier hit his second league century of the season -- 109 not out including 10 fours and two sixes -- as Bay reached 229 for five in just over five hours. By the close they managed to claim nine St. George's wickets before Adams and Foggo denied them victory with a 10th-wicket stand of 16.
Clay Smith led the St. George's batting with 30 while Eugene Foggo scored 20 and Adams 21 not out.
Clarkie Trott took four for 42 from 14 overs to lead the Bay bowling in the absence of Anthony Braithwaite, Noel Gibbons and the injured Ricky Hodsoll while Marshall claimed two late wickets to take Bay to the brink of victory.
He finished with two for seven from six overs and Jermaine Outerbridge, sharing the new ball with Trott, took two for 25 in five overs.
St. George's had a bad start, losing their first three wickets with just seven runs on the board.
Earlier, Irving Romaine supported Marshall with 50 not out as they put on 113 for the unbroken sixth wicket. Chris Smith chipped on with 26 as Eugene Foggo claimed two for 50 and Adams two for 77, from 20 and 23 overs respectively.
Social Club 155 Nationals 159-2 After openers Gary Knight and Jeff Pitcher put on 50 for the first wicket, and then departed in the space of one run, brothers Jason and Darrin Lewis completed Nationals' eight-wicket win over Social Club at Nationals.
The pair put on 58 for the unbroken third wicket as the younger Jason scored 68 including 10 fours and two sixes and his captain supported at the other end with 37. Roddy Thompson had given Social Club some hope by removing both Knight (14) and Pitcher (34) in the same over, though that was to be the last success for Social Club. Thompson finished with two for 48 from 11.4 overs.
The match started on a bright note for Nationals as Caldon Grimes was bowled by Chris Wright's first delivery. Francis Grenardo and Thomas Brangman both scored 38 as they shared in a second-wicket stand of 84.
Wilfred Hodson broke up that stand by trapping Brangman lbw and in the next over Grenardo was also trapped lbw, by Mark Ray, as Social Club then slumped to 99 for four, which later became 130 for seven. Veterans Webster Mills (15) and Lee Raynor (14) were the only other Social Club batsmen to reach double figures.
John Ray led the Nationals bowling with four for 36 from 18 overs while Wright finished with two for 32 off 13 overs. Mark Ray had an economical one for 12 from 14 overs.
Of the 67 overs Nationals bowled, 23 were maidens, with Mark Ray bowling seven in his spell and brother John six.
Southampton 251 Somerset 205-7 Clevie Wade struck 106 and then took three wickets for 24 but this fine all-round performance still was not enough to prevent Somerset from drawing at the Oval.
Wade's whirlwind innings helped Southampton to one of their highest totals of the season. He joined Lyndon Raynor (36) in a sixth-wicket stand that put on 73 runs as the pair took the score from 91 for five to 164.
Wade wasted little time attacking the bowlers, finishing with four sixes and 15 fours. Also among the runs were Stevie Lightbourne with 41.
Anthony Bailey was the leading bowler for Somerset with four wickets for 51 while skipper Andre Manders claimed three for 27.
Somerset made a spirited effort for the runs but time just was not on their side. Opener Dwight Basden was their top scorer with 43 while Davon Wade followed with 42, Donovan Livingston 36 and Jermaine Warner 25.
Somerset Bridge 81 Flatts 82-3 Brandon Woolridge snatched three wickets for 10 runs off seven overs to lead Flatts to this seven-wicket victory over lowly Somerset Bridge at Devonshire Rec. field.
Woolridge teamed up with four other bowlers to demolish Bridge in quick time.
Both Troy Dean and Floyd Smith took two for 25 while McDonald Woolridge had one for one.
Only four Bridge batsmen reached double figures. Brian Gibbons scored 15, Gary Crofton 11 and O'Neil Virgil and Tony Cheeseman each scored 10, the latter was undefeated.
Thanks to a quick 33 not put from Rodney Woolridge, Flatts reached victory in short time. Derek Wright was not out with 15 while opener Troy Dean scored 12.
Brian Gibbons had one for 36 while Gladwin Ingham had one for 26.
St. David's 250-9 dec.
Warwick 65-7 Warwick hung on for a valuable draw at Lord's yesterday when St. David's paid the price for a late declaration after winning the toss and deciding to go for batting practice in preparation of Eastern Counties first round on Saturday.
Opener Allen Richardson hit eight boundaries in a top knock of 94 while Dean Pitcher scored 34 and number seven bat Herbie Bascome 43 including five fours and a six. Warwick captain Hoyt Zuill claimed three for 47 from 19 overs while his new ball partner Eugene Pitt took three for 73, also from 19 overs, and Johnny Nusum two for 77 in 20.1 overs.
Warwick, who started their innings at 5 p.m., lost Nusum on the first ball from Dale Fox before Sheridan Ming and Kevin Dill were both removed in Cecil Pitcher's second over 25 runs later. The other opener, Peter Lee, fell to Bruce Foggo three runs later as Warwick found themselves in deep trouble at 28 for four.
However, a fifth-wicket stand of 21 between Daniel Morgan (15) and Jeffrey James (eight) kept St. David's at bay in fading light leaving wicket-keeper Wallace Minors and captain Zuill to hold on for the draw.
Cecil Pitcher finished with two for five while Richardson claimed two for 16, both from seven overs. Dale Fox, who went off injured, took one for 11 while Bascome, the seventh bowler used, was one for four from four overs.
RICH FORM -- Charlie Marshall hit an unbeaten 109 against St. George's.
