Tempers flare as Police triumph
to a 16-3 win over third placed Mariners during yesterday's Amstel League first division action.
In the second match, Teachers beat Renegades 26-7 which means that only one point separates Teachers from league leaders Police with only two games left.
There were four separate fights during the first game as tempers flared and passions ran high.
Referee Kim White sent Dave Conway and Police skipper Sean Field off after a midfield skirmish.
Police were ahead 13-3 at half-time with a drop goal, a penalty and a conversion from Oliver, and a try from winger Troy Glasglow.
Declan O'Laughlin kicked a penalty -- the only points scored by Mariners.
After the interval, Oliver added another penalty for the Blues to put the game out of Mariners' reach.
In the second game, Teachers steamrolled over Renegades 26-7 after being scoreless at the half.
Fullback Richard Willis put Renegades ahead 7-0 with a converted try after 14 minutes, but Teachers' centre Kevin Harris brought them level with a converted try of his own four minutes later.
Noel Capewell and Alvin Harvey added ten more points for Teachers with two tries and Harris chipped in with a conversion.
In the final minute, Teachers flanker Patrick Cooper sealed Renegades fate with a converted try.
Sean Field and Dave Conway could be out for the rest of the season after they were sent off for fighting yesterday.
Referee Kim White has 24 hours to submit his report to the disciplinary committee who will make a ruling within seven days.
