The recent fourth annual Sir Michael Edwardes Doubles tournament attracted a record 16 teams, and was deemed a rousing success by organisers.
Competition took place in two divisions with 10 sides involved in the senior category and six among the junior.
The doubles format was something new to many of those involved.
When the dust finally settled, Kieran Bradshaw and Stephen Smith stood triumphant among the juniors, while the tandem of Jan and Murray Brewer showed themselves as the top guns in the senior bracket.
Bradshaw and Smith defeated James Stout and Francessa Bortoli 2-0 in an entertaining final, while the Brewers endured a 20 minute clash with Julian Rose and Anthony White which featuring several exceptional rallies.
Jan and Murray eventually emerged triumphant 2-0.
Following the success of the tournament, more doubles events are being planned on a bi-monthly basis.
JUNIOR GOLF GLF JUNIOR GOLF Junior golfers survived the wet and windy weather to complete their weekly tournament at Ocean View last Saturday.
In driving rain, 12-year-old Aaron James fired an impressive three-over-par 73 to win the senior section, finishing three shots ahead of Chaka DeSilva.
R.J.Pachai was third on 87.
Neil Fenton led the way in Group Four with 79 followed by Sean Durkin on 86, one shot ahead of Chris Brough.
Anthony Smith topped Group Three with 79, three shots up on second-placed Ryan Marshall who in turn was three ahead of Scott Roy.
Group Two action over 13 holes saw Davin Smith lead the way with 68, four ahead of David Smith. Kwami Caisey was third on 79.
In Group One, Lanrdau Bascombe fired 46 over nine holes, two better than Jarryd Dillas who edged out Timothy Burland on retrogression.
Tournament play moves to Belmont tomorrow.
BOWLING BOW The race at the top of the Mixed Classic Bowling League continues to hot up.
A&J Sportscards enhanced their position by out bowling New Beginnings 15-5 in a match much closer than the scoreline indicates.
Hilton Hayward led the way for the victors with a 531 series, while Carl Reid more than matched Hayward with a 551 of his own.
Pro Staff kept pace with a hard fought 16-4 triumph over Flagler Street, led by Ricky Lines' 557 series.
Harold Trott rolled a 552 series and 230 game in a losing cause for Flagler Street.
Falling heavily were Us Until as they plummeted from first to fourth following their 14-6 defeat at the hands of Four Star Pizza, who used the arm of team captain Marie Richardson to full effect. Richardson produced the second high women's series of 562.
Winnette Lottimore achieved the best women's series and game scores of 572 and 224 respectively to spur Perfect Combination to victory against Peaches and Cream.
RUGBY RUG Tag rugby will appear at next month's World Rugby Classic.
On opening day -- November 10 -- representatives of Bermuda's primary schools will compete against each other between 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m..
The event is being sponsored by DHL Worldwide Express who recently pledged $30,000 over the next four years to the development of rugby among the Island's youth.
