Ton-up Charlie hits top score of the season

PHC 137 Talk about being courteous to your new tenants! Premier League leaders Bailey's Bay were anything but as PHC's first home match on their new field, Sea Breeze Oval, resulted in another Bay onslaught -- Charlie Marshall leading his team's recovery with the top score of the season.

The Bay skipper hammered 149 out of a Bay total of 290 to put PHC on the ropes after PHC had their opponents in early trouble at 83-5.

But Marshall, dropping himself down to number six to allow Irving Romaine and Jason Anderson to move up the order, led from the front yet again as he smashed his second century with 15 fours and nine sixes to move past 400 runs for the season.

Marshall added 127 for the sixth wicket with Stephen Outerbridge, whose contribution was 25, the third highest individual score behind Glenn Blakeney's 26.

James Pace claimed three for 39 to lead the PHC bowling while Kevin Tucker took three for 49. Shoron Hunt was the most expensive of the PHC bowlers, though he did claim two wickets. They cost him 74 runs off eight overs.

PHC also lost wickets cheaply, but there was no Charlie Marshall in their middle order to pull them through after being 26-4 in the first nine overs.

They moved on to 65-6 by the 16th over before an injury robbed them of top scorer Kallan Johnston who hit 27 and then retired hurt with a hamstring pull after a quick single.

Hunt scored 21 not out in the tailend while James Pace hit 20 and Sheridan Ming 16 in the middle order.

Clarkie Trott moved past 20 wickets for the season with his haul of five for 26. Youngster Jim West, who shared the new ball with Trott, took three for 54.

St. George's 227 Police 210 Police were in a good position to inflict the first league defeat on joint leaders St. George's at Police Field, but blew the chance when well placed in the closing overs.

Set 228 for victory, they laid a solid foundation with 90 in 17 overs for the first wicket with Dennis Archer scoring 45 and Andrew Rollins 29. And even though they slowed up to 162 after 40 overs, which left them needing 50 off the last eight overs, Police were still on cue especially with Dave Greenidge in good form.

But when he was bowled in the 44th over for 68 in Eugene Foggo's first over back, the match swung in St. George's favour. Donovan Livingston then carried the fight by taking 14 off a Herbie Bascome over to reduce the target to 22 off 18 balls.

However, in the next over Livingston was caught on the boundary by Sinclair Gibbons off Foggo for 22 and with him went Police's last hope as Foggo bowled Philip Bailey next ball.

The first ball of the next over saw Bascome bowl Daniel Reece to make it 208-9. Three balls later it was all over when Richard Austin was caught on the boundary by Troy Hall, leaving Police 17 short of their target.

Foggo finished with four for 20 while Bascome and Mark Ray both took two wickets.

Earlier Dexter Smith stroked 101, including 14 fours, while Sinclair Gibbons hit 32 at number three as St. George's reached 165-2 before a middle order slump.

Freston Hurdle took three for 23 while Richard Austin and Livingston both claimed two wickets.

St. David's 265 Flatts 110 Allen Richardson continued his good form with 78 from nine fours and four sixes as St. David's hammered Flatts by 155 runs at Devonshire Rec. After a first ball duck by Clay Smith to a Vernon Eve full toss, Lionel Cann chipped in with 32 in the middle order while O.J. Pitcher scored 27 and Sammy Robinson 21 not out. Eve finished with three for 51 from 10 overs.

Flatts never threatened victory after losing their first three wickets with only 37 on the board. They recovered to 78-5 before Lionel Cann ripped through the middle order with four for 18 from 10 overs. Dale Fox had two for eight from five overs.

High man for Flatts was opener Andrew Richardson with 22.

Social Club 64 Western Stars 68-2 Social Club were skidded out for 64 at St. John's, but the encouraging news for them is they managed to field a full team for the first time this season.

Only Webster Mills reached double figures with 23 while there were 24 extras, including 21 wides. At one point Social Club were 50-2, before spinners Cleon Scotland and Justin Robinson did the bowling damage.

After captain Arnold Manders, sharing the new ball with Treadwell Gibbons, had figures of one for two from seven overs with six maidens, Scotland claimed five for 14 from 8.3 overs.

Somerset CC 87 Southampton Rangers 90-2 The bowling trio of Chesley Wisinghie, Garry Williams and Janeiro Tucker demolished Somerset, spearheading Rangers to an eight-wicket victory.

They combined to take all 10 wickets, Wisinghie leading the attack by snatching five for 17 from a spell of 8.4 overs, which included three maidens.

Williams took three for 41 from his allotted 10 overs while Tucker's two for 17 off eight overs completed Somerset's misery.

For Somerset, who lost their first two wickets for 16, Leon Place topped the scoring with 21. The only other player to make double figures was opener Steven Mendes, who managed 10.

Southampton raced to victory in 16.4 overs with opener Keith Wainwright striking 32 not out and Janeiro Tucker 19 not out. Skipper Olin Jones hit 11.

Willow Cuts 353-8 Warwick 132 Willow Cuts scored an emphatic 220-run victory over a young Warwick team at Southampton with Richard Basden following up a century in his previous appearance by blasting 82, which included 10 fours.

Joining in the run feast for Cuts were skipper Dexter Basden with 49, Dwight Basden (47), Dwayne Basden (45) and Trevor Dickinson (34 not out).

Daniel Caines claimed three wickets while conceding 78 runs off 10 overs while D.Stovell took two for 39 off in his 10. Twelve-year-old Reginald Baker got among the wickets by taking one for 10 off his only over, having Kevin Fubler (9) caught by Perry Scott on the mid-off boundary.

Fubler led the Cuts bowling in reply by finishing with four for 32 off eight overs. Ozzie Hinds took three for 38 off 10 overs, while Kenny Maybury had two for 39 off eight overs.

Caines topped Warwick's batting with 35, while skipper Ritchie Foggo scored 24 and Scott 16.

Somerset Bridge 135 Cleveland 136-7 Cleveland handed Bridge a three-wicket defeat at Wellington Oval with Aaron Adams' 49 leading the way.

Brian Gibbons had earlier hit an impressive 51 for Bridge but the other batsmen failed to contribute anything of significance. Gibbons then snatched two for 29 while skipper Corvett Lambert took three for 35 but their efforts proved in vain.
