Touch finish for youth

final rounds at the Doral Publinks Junior Classic yesterday as gusty winds wreaked havoc among the field.

Sherlock, ballooned to a 93 that gave him a three-round total of 248 and placed him in the middle of the 40-member pack that had made the cut in the 14-to-15 year age group.

Meanwhile, James, competing in the consolation round, could only manage a 94 that computed to a total score of 278.

"They performed well under the conditions and taking into account that they had to play on three different courses they had never seen,'' said chaperone Kenny Bean last night.

"David was a little nervous, with all the people, but overall they did all right.'' Entering the day, Sherlock was in a top-10 position, but rapidly dropped back just as the temperature fell and the breeze picked up.

He was playing on a course nicknamed "The Monster'' and which is the same as that used for the prestigious Doral Open on the PGA tour.
