Trott named top cricketer
Bay team-mates after being named the ZBM/Shell Cricketer-of-the-Year during a lavish ceremony at Elbow Beach Hotel on Saturday.
The fast bowler was lauded for his performance throughout a turbulent 1994 season at Bay, one in which he seized 80 wickets and played a major role as the club captured the "triple crown'' of League, Premier Knock-out and Camel Cup, along with a successful retention of the Eastern Counties Cup.
On several occasions Trott was called in to bowl marathon spells for his club and he repaid the team's faith in him with several impressive performances, including three seven-wicket hauls, while totalling 320.3 overs with 96 of those maidens.
Trott, who received a $1,000 travel voucher along with cedar trophies, paid tribute to his team-mates, many conspicuous by their absence, and had special thanks for his fiancee, Patrice, who he said had helped him in reeling in a temper that sometimes gets in the way of his talent.
Second in the balloting was Dexter Smith, the left-handed St. George's opening batsmen, who was second to Albert Steede in the scoring aggregate battle with 852 runs. Steede, who totalled 913 for the year, was third.
Meanwhile, Warwick's Daniel Caines captured the Young Player Award over Jason Anderson of St. George's for his contribution to his team, mainly as a bowler, which just missed qualifying for the proposed Super Eight league.
