Two of Bermuda's young sailors have posted excellent results in the last major northern regatta of the year in the Optimist Dinghy class.
At the New England Fall Championships, held in Hingham, Massachusetts, 15-year-old Zan Kirkland placed 16th and 12-year-old James Doughty 42nd in a fleet of 114 sailors.
Kirkland won the fourth race by over 30 seconds, but then tumbled from sixth overall to 16th when his fourth place finish in the last race was struck out after officials ruled he was over the starting line early.
That meant he couldn't throw out his first finish of 66th which resulted from a capsize.
In only his second major regatta, Doughty, at a scant 67-lbs, performed particularly well in the breezy conditions.
