Washout forces changes
organisers of the XL Capital Bermuda Open with a logistal headache, as last night's feature matches were postponed.
The heavens opened just as an anxious crowd had settled at courtside in anticipation of the final second round match between second seed Gianluca Pozzi of Italy and Canada's Sebastien Lareau. A mere 10 minutes later centre court rested underwater.
"The rain certainly does cause you to adjust the schedule for the next day, because one of the things you have to make sure is that a player doesn't have to play two matches too close together the next day,'' said tournament director Alec Anderson, still managing a smile despite the dreary conditions.
As a result of the postponement the Pozzi versus Lareau match will take place this morning (11.30 a.m.) and has been moved to court seven.
Meanwhile, action on centre court will now commence at noon, with Australia's Andrew Illie, the number one seed, facing off against Agustin Calleri of Argentina in the first quarter-final. That match will be followed by another of great potential, featuring Aussie Jason Stoltenberg and France's Thierry Guardiola.
The Lareau/Pozzi winner will then turn around and play Laurence Tieleman as the night feature.
Despite the forced shuffling of matches, Anderson held out praise for the newly relayed facility at Coral Beach.
"The courts have held up well considering all the rain we've had,'' he said.
"But there have been huge deluges and because there hasn't been any wind or sun today they haven't been able to dry off.''
