Wasteful Village taken all the way

Social Club 0 North Village struck early enough in this game against Second Division team Young Men's Social Club to suggest a romp at Bernard Park.

But the Red Devils blew nothing but hot air for the rest of the match as Ty-one Richardson's own goal in the ninth minute enabled them to book a place in the semi-finals.

A host of missed chances by Village kept the game close, with Neil (Diamond) Robinson, who went off late in the second half with an injury to the foot he broke years ago, admitting he "should have had a double hat-trick''.

And if Jahma Charles had connected with his attempted shot inside the box in the closing minutes, Social Club might have forced this game into extra time.

The goal was an early setback for Social Club, coming when midfielder Kofi Dill's shot on goal was deflected past his own goalkeeper by Richardson.

Eventually the underdogs settled down but not before Village, technically the better team, began to creat numerous chances in a bid to stamp their authority.

Robinson created a good chance for Village to double their lead in the 13th minute when a ball into the box saw him beat Dyke Lawrence to the ball.

Elliott Jennings, standing nearby, hit a first time shot into the side netting from an angle as the catalogue of misses began.

Gladwin Edness in the North Village goal was quick off his line to deny Charles soon after before a Village move down the left side opened up the Social Club defence for Robinson to shoot against the near post.

Robinson went close again in the 25th minute when a pass down the left flank by Rahji Edness was dummied by Jennings for Robinson to run on and curl a shot just over the bar.

Village taken all the way From Page 25 Social Club's chances were not as plentiful as Village's but they did have a good opportunity to equalise when Raymond Burgess' corner on the right beat Edness but Erick Dunkley at the far post wasted the chance.

Robinson had two more chances for Village towards the end of the half, first blasting past the far post after chesting a ball down and then putting a free kick just wide after Jennings was fouled as he raced for goal.

The misses continued in the second half as Kofi Dill followed up a blocked shot from Robinson to shoot against the near post. Then Jennings side-footed over from 10 yards after good work by Kaiwon Dill opened the Social Club defence.

Substitute Jahmarley Samuels also got in on the act when he opted to cross for a team-mate when a shot from his position inside the box might have brought a better result.

At the other end Edness gifted Social Club their last chance to draw level in the 86th minute when, in an attempt to keep the ball in play, he chested down a harmless shot from substitute Kimani Fubler. Charles was quick to pounce but completely miskicked with the open goal beckoning.
