West, Lumsden make their move

11-under-par net 60 to stake their claim for the Founder's Trophy in the third round of the 72-hole tournament at Mid Ocean Club yesterday.

Joint first day leaders with a 61, West and Lumsden slumped to a 74 in the rain-hit second round, but now trail net leaders Ricky Lines and Gerald Goodman, who fired 66 yesterday, by just one shot.

Heading into today's final round, Lines and Goodman are on 194 and West and Lumsden on 195. Two strokes further back are Tom Stearns and Tom Doolan who returned a 63 yesterday to finish on 197.

Defending champions Robert Vallis and Jack White, who shared the first day lead but also suffered in the second round, bounced back with a 66 yesterday and are now four shots off the lead.

However, their gross 69 yesterday left them three strokes clear in the gross division, on 209 -- ahead of Thomas Slater and Richard Haverland (212).

One of yesterday's best net rounds, a 64, belonged to Australian tennis star Pat Rafter and his Bermudian partner Kevin Petty, but they trail the leaders by 10.
